West and Lower Queen Anne

A walk-loving friend was picking up a kindergartner on Queen Anne this afternoon so we took the opportunity to have lunch at Macrina Bakery and walk streets in West and Lower Queen Anne. Our 3.6 mile walk took us down and up some steep staircases.

We passed some lovely homes, an impressive wall with a staircase leading up to 8th Place W (near Marshall Park and Parsons Gardens)

and the lovely Kinnear Park with its playground and lookout which offered great Sound views (as well as a view of the grain elevators on Pier 86) and some philosophy.

We were rewarded with a view of the Space Needle

and noted the name "Epler Place" at the base of a street sign that told us we were on 7th and Olympic. It seems that "The street names in Seattle ... were “rationalized” in the mid-1890s. In many instances historical names were dropped for numbers."

Another enjoyable walk and the hills gave us a real workout.
