South Whittier Heights

We got pretty wet on today's Whittier Heights walk so my husband and I cut it short at 3.1 miles. We walked the streets between 8th and Alonzo Avenues NW from NW 65th to NW 70th Street.

This is mostly a residential area with older single family homes on cozy streets - some with plush landscaping.

The intersection at 70th and Alonzo is commercial with a few small shops including, Tarasco Mexican Restaurant, Delancey Restaurant, The Fat Hen, Honore Bakery, Bella Umbrella and Soma Yoga and Dance.

We saw a bear sculpture,

a row of shamrock plants

and palm trees.

This area is dominated by Ballard High School

and some streets near the school have largely been redeveloped with townhouses and multiplexes.

We ended our walk with a trip to the Galway Trader. The proprietor was friendly, we found some nice St. Patrick's Day gifts, and commiserated with each other on today's Irish weather.
